When is Back Pain More Than Just Back Pain

For most people back pain or sciatica symptoms are not life threatening or conditions that requires emergency care. But there are a few symptoms that should never be ignored when it comes to low back pain and sciatica that require immediate medical attention.

Now don’t panic because even these symptoms may not require invasive procedures or anything like that but they do require immediate evaluation by your doctor.

The Red Flag Symptoms are:

  • Fever that came on with the back pain
  • Weakness in the legs or feet
  • History of cancer (especially prostate cancer)
  • Loss of bowel or bladder control
  • Recent traumatic event
  • Snapping sound that precedes the pain
  • Dragging of the foot or feet
  • Sudden shortness of breath
  • Numbness in the groin region
  • Any loss of sensation in the legs
  • A recent infection prior to low back pain

If you have any of these symptoms you should seek the care of your doctor immediately.
